A corrugated sidewall conveyor belt consists of three main components: the base belt, corrugated sidewalls, and cross cleats. Together, these components form a continuous conveying surface that supports bulk materials during steep-angle or vertical transport.

Base Belt

A Sidewall Conveyor Belt can operate in a vertical conveying layout. However, for fully vertical lifting, we generally recommend a bucket elevator belt because it is specifically designed for continuous vertical material handling. A Sidewall Conveyor Belt is usually more suitable when one route combines horizontal loading, steep lifting, and horizontal discharge. Your final choice should consider the material, lifting height, required capacity, installation space, and discharge arrangement.

Can a Sidewall Conveyor Belt Handle Wet or Sticky Materials?

You can use a Sidewall Conveyor Belt for certain wet or sticky materials, but buildup may occur on the cleats, sidewalls, pulleys, or discharge section. Moisture content, adhesion, and flowability should be considered before confirming the belt structure. Sticky materials may require controlled feeding, reduced pocket filling, suitable rubber compounds, or additional cleaning arrangements to maintain stable discharge and limit material carryback.

Can a Sidewall Conveyor Belt Convey Hot Materials?

You can convey hot materials when the base belt, corrugated sidewalls, cross cleats, and bonding materials are all suitable for the operating temperature. Please provide both the normal and maximum material temperatures, because continuous heat and short temperature peaks affect rubber differently. A heat-resistant base-belt cover alone is not sufficient if the sidewalls, cleats, or bonding layers cannot withstand the same thermal conditions.

Can It Convey Large or Sharp-Edged Materials?

Large or sharp-edged materials can increase cutting, impact, and concentrated wear on the cleats and corrugated sidewalls. You should consider maximum lump size, average particle distribution, loading height, and material shape before confirming the configuration. For highly abrasive materials, we can add an external steel plate to the cleat surface, helping protect the rubber from direct contact and reduce premature cleat wear.

Can a Sidewall Conveyor Belt Run in Reverse?

Most Sidewall Conveyor Belt systems are designed for one operating direction, with fixed loading, cleat orientation, belt path, and discharge conditions. Reversing the belt may affect pocket filling, material retention, cleaning, and discharge performance. You should only use reversible operation when the complete conveyor system has been designed for both directions. A standard incline conveyor belt installation should not be assumed to operate reliably in reverse.

What Affects Material Discharge from a Sidewall Conveyor Belt?

Material discharge depends on cleat style, cleat height, belt speed, pulley diameter, material flowability, and discharge-chute design. Free-flowing materials normally leave the belt more easily, while wet or cohesive materials may remain between the corrugated sidewalls and cross cleats. You should consider discharge behavior before selecting the cleat structure, especially when the material must enter a narrow hopper, chute, mixer, or processing inlet.
