Chevron Profile Design for Inclined Bulk Conveying

A chevron conveyor belt uses raised rubber profiles to provide physical support behind sand, gravel, coal, ore, grain, and other loose materials as the belt moves upward. This support reduces backward sliding on the inclined section, while the profile dimensions and arrangement determine how the material is held across the carrying surface.

Chevron Profile Forming and Vulcanization

We use different molding procedures according to the profile height, ensuring that shallow patterns retain clear dimensions and deeper mold cavities are completely filled during vulcanization.

Profiles Below 6mm

Lower chevron profiles are formed directly with the top cover rubber during the molding process. The profile and belt cover are pressed and vulcanized in the same production cycle, creating a continuous rubber structure with consistent pattern height, spacing, and surface details.

Profiles of 6mm and Above

For deeper profiles, uncured rubber is placed into each mold cavity before pressing. The prepared mold and belt are then vulcanized together under controlled heat and pressure, allowing the rubber to fill the complete profile shape and form a solid connection with the belt cover.

FAQs

When is an available mold a better option than developing a new mold?

An existing mold can be used when its profile shape and principal dimensions can satisfy the customer’s confirmed operating requirements. TIANTIE INDUSTRIAL first compares the requested pattern with available molds and submits the closest practical option for approval. A new mold is considered only when the available option cannot be accepted because of dimensional compatibility, conveyor clearance, pattern arrangement, or specific replacement requirements.

Can you recommend a pattern when no original belt data is available?

Yes. When the original specification, mold number, and profile dimensions cannot be found, provide a basic image showing the required pattern shape, together with the conveyed material and conveyor inclination. TIANTIE INDUSTRIAL will use this information to compare available molds and recommend a suitable pattern for confirmation. The recommended option will be submitted to the customer before the belt specification and quotation are finalized.

Why is pattern drawing approval still required when an existing mold is used?

An existing mold only confirms that the profile cavity is available. The customer must still approve the pattern orientation, effective patterned width, edge spacing, repeat direction, and its position on the specified belt width. This confirmation prevents the correct mold from being used with an incorrect layout and ensures that the finished chevron conveyor belt matches the approved replacement or equipment requirements.

Why can two patterns with the same profile height perform differently?

Profile height does not represent the complete pattern structure. Pattern width, pitch, opening size, orientation, continuity, and effective patterned width also affect how the material is supported and released. Two profiles with the same nominal height may therefore behave differently on the same conveyor. Mold comparison must be based on the complete profile drawing and dimensions rather than using height as the only matching condition.

Why are deeper chevron profiles more difficult to form consistently?

Deeper profiles require uncured rubber to fill the complete mold cavity, including the profile root, corners, and highest section. For profiles of 6mm and above, profile rubber is placed into the mold cavity before pressing and vulcanization. This process provides sufficient rubber volume for the deeper section and allows the profile to form together with the belt cover under controlled heat and pressure.

How is pattern continuity handled at the joint of an endless chevron belt?

The conveyor length is a fixed equipment condition and is not adjusted to suit the pattern. The joint layout is determined by the length of one complete pattern repeat and the required joint length. For short joint sections or complex patterns, a small unpatterned area may remain. When the joint is long enough to accommodate a complete pattern repeat, we use the same vulcanization-forming process at the joint to maintain pattern continuity and the overall appearance of the belt.
